AURA-approved Festival Looks

The magic is always in the hair at these music events. Here are the 5 must-try festival styles for 2022 that will have you standing out while rocking out amongst the crowds. To show you how easy these looks are to recreate, we teamed up with some of our favorite people.

1. Top Pigtails

Look 1: Top Pigtails
AURA Hair Care model Giovanna wears Y2K-inspired Top Pigtails in her curly dark brunette hair. This festival style is great for all hair types as it beats the windy and dry desert weather.
@giovannamoceri

We are obsessed with how our friend Giovanna effortlessly rocks this look! This is her go-to fun hairstyle for her curly hair that she achieved with the help of her Ritual.

This is an easily accomplished style that works with all hair types and in many variations. Top head pigtails give off Y2K energy while still being modern enough to spice up with your personal style.

How To Achieve This Look:

What You’ll Need

  • AURA Ritual
  • Small elastic bands

Steps

  1. Apply personalized Masque to dry hair and leave in for 10 minutes.
  2. Once 10 minutes is up, wash hair with personalized Shampoo and Conditioner.
  3. Dry hair so it is ready to style.
  4. Take two front strands to leave out of the top pigtails.
  5. Section upper left section of hair. Grab one small elastic band to tie and secure pigtail.
  6. Repeat Step 5 with the upper right section of hair.
  7. Double or triple up on the tiny elastic bands since the heat and frizz can pop the elastics.
  8. Adjust and fluff your pigtails as you’d like.
  9. Now you’re ready to get to the main stage in time for your favorite act!

2. 90s Twists

Look 2: 90s Twists
AURA Hair Care model MariaJosé rocks festival style 90s Twists in her short dark brown hair with the help of small claw clips and her rock n' roll style.
@dollmariaj

Twist and twirl your strands in 90s inspiration with this desert and dance-proof style. Our girl MariaJose really knows how to elevate this look with her own personal touches like mini butterfly clips and a trend-setting get-up. Read more below to learn how to do it yourself!

How To Achieve This Look:

What You’ll Need

  • Mini butterfly clips
  • Bobby pins

Steps

  1. Section hair into four parts.
  2. Clip back sections back, let front sections down.
  3. Separate front strands and twist them towards the back.
  4. Use mini butterfly clips to hold twists and secure with bobby pins.
  5. Take remaining back section and twist into two buns, making sure ends stick out (the tighter the twists the better!). Secure with remaining clips and pins.
  6. Repeat Step 4 with the rest of front hair until desired twists are achieved.

3. French Braid Ponytail

@ruta_bauzaite

We love a remix, especially when it comes to mixing a classic French Braid and high ponytail. Our friend Rutele knows how to turn up this style with the perfect amount of epic desert dance party vibes. Check out her helpful styling steps below.

How To Achieve This Look:

What You’ll Need

  • Dry Shampoo
  • Hair clips & elastic bands
  • Bobby pins
  • French braid tutorial

Steps

  1. Spray hair with dry shampoo for a hint of extra volume.
  2. Section your hair. Clip the top section up and tie back the bottom section of your hair.
  3. Let down the top section of your hair & French braid this section.
  4. Gather three separate sections of hair from the top section.
  5. Start braiding. The key to a polished French braid is braiding close to the head with a slightly tight grip.
  6. As you braid, add more hair into each section to keep the thickness evenly distributed.
  7. Secure the top braid at its end with a hair elastic.
  8. Put all of your hair up in a high ponytail.
  9. Pull at the french braid for a tousled look.
  10. Take a strand from the bottom of the ponytail and wrap it around the base.
  11. Use a bobby pin to secure the end of that wrapped around strand underneath the pony.

AURA Insight: Dazzle it up with colorful barrettes or iridescent glitter.

4. Tinsel Tresses & Bobby Pins

@nadine.xoo

Shimmer and shine like a fairy this festival season with stellar tinsel extensions. Keep your hairdo tamed by adding a multitude of thoughtfully placed bobby pins for a complete look that you can dance the night away in! You can learn a lot from our fabulous friend Nadine’s tinsel application and styling process. We break it down for you below.

How To Achieve This Look:

What You’ll Need

  • Tinsel extensions & tools
  • Bobby pins and barrettes (more colors, the better!)
  • Extension-proof hairbrush and comb

Steps

  1. Brush and comb through hair.
  2. Prepare the first individual tinsel extension for application; pick out strand.
  3. Secure extension onto strand with a metal bead at the top by using a clamping tool. Repeat this step until you’re satisfied with your amount of tinsel.
  4. Gently brush through hair using an extension-proof brush to blend hair and tinsel together. CAUTION: Make sure to start brushing below the beads.
  5. Trim tinsel to match your hair’s length.
  6. Take face-framing strands and slick them to the sides with bobby pins.

AURA Insight: If you’re up for it, give this slick style some color with a pigmented Masque.

  • Pigmented Masque
  • Iridescent glitter

Steps

  1. Apply pigmented Masque to wet or dry hair (the drier the hair, the more intense the pigmentation!)
  2. Leave in hair for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Once time is up, rinse out your hair.
  4. Dry hair and style as you prefer.
