Our Hair Care Specialists’ Insights

There are a number of different ways to change your pigment from one to another. How you’ll achieve your desired end result depends on your current hair color and the color you are looking to change to. With that said, let’s take a deeper look at the different ways you switch up your pigmented hairstyle.

  • If your new desired color is within the same color family as your current color, you can slowly add your new color into your routine.

For example, if you want to go from Saharan Copper to Sonoma Red (two colors in the red-haired family), you may consider starting with a Sonoma Red Pigmented Conditioner before applying a Sonoma Red Pigmented Masque. Why you ask? Because the Conditioner will start as a good base for the new color as you slowly make the change to this deeper red hue.

  • If you are wanting to take your look in a completely different direction (such as from Santorini Blue to Rose Gold), we would recommend using a clarifying shampoo to remove the current pigment and then add your new pigment. This will allow you to start with a clean slate rather than having two strong colors fighting against each other.

  • Another option is to embrace your shade as it changes. Each of our color-enhancing pigments has its own personality and fades in a different way as time goes on. For instance, our French Lavender Fantasy pigment gradually fades to a lovely blue-ish tone over time. This is also a really low-maintenance way to try something new without actually changing your entire look.
